Does Dôen Run Small? A Dôen Sizing Guide

0

The short answer: Dôen does not run small across the board. How a piece fits depends on its cut and its fabric. This guide explains the sizes Dôen makes, how they convert to UK sizing and which styles leave room to manoeuvre. It applies to every piece in the Dôen collection at Coveti, and you can browse all designer dresses with the same rules in mind. If you are choosing your first dress, pair this with our Dôen dress guide.

The sizes Dôen makes

Most Dôen clothing is made in letter sizes. Across the 542 Dôen styles in our first delivery:

  • XXS to XXL covers 325 styles, the majority.
  • XS to XL covers another 179, mostly silk and lace pieces.
  • US numeric sizes 0 to 14 are used for 16 tailored styles, such as trousers and jackets.
  • Waist sizes in inches, 23 to 34, are used for Dôen denim.

Dôen to UK size conversion

Use this as a starting point. It is how Coveti maps Dôen’s sizes onto UK sizing.

Dôen letter Dôen US numeric Approximate UK
XXS 0 UK 4
XS 2 UK 6
S 4 UK 8
M 6 to 8 UK 10 to 12
L 10 UK 14
XL 12 UK 16
XXL 14 UK 18

Styles with give: smocked, elastic and tie-waist

A smocked bodice stretches. So does an elasticated waist, and a self tie adjusts. These styles are the most forgiving, and if you are between sizes you can usually take the smaller. The Ischia Dress in Salt, the Quinelle Dress in Black and the Safia Dress in Deep Ruby are good examples. Dôen flags some of these on the product page with a fit note such as “elasticized bodice”.

Styles with less give: fitted, zipped, non-stretch

Crisp organic cotton poplin, ramie and silk twill do not stretch. When a style is fitted through the bodice and closes with a side zip, take your true size, and if you are between sizes and have a fuller bust, size up. Dôen marks many of these with the fit note “side zip closure”.

Loose and popover styles

Blouses and popover dresses are cut with ease. Many shoppers like them in their usual size, others size down for a neater line. The Henri Top in Salt and other voile blouses fall into this group. See the Dôen tops guide for more.

Knitwear and denim

Dôen knitwear is generally relaxed, especially cardigans worn open. Denim is sized by waist in inches, so measure a pair of jeans you already own across the waistband and double it. Our knitwear guide covers the sweaters and cardigans.

Use the model information

Every Dôen product page at Coveti tells you the model’s height and the size she wears, for example “5’9 (175cm) and wears a size S”. Most Dôen models are between 5’8 and 5’11 and wear XS and S. If you are shorter, expect midi lengths to fall lower on you, and maxi styles to reach the floor.
