Which Mackage men’s ski jacket should you buy?
The four jackets cover four different ways of skiing. The Cillian-WMK is the warm all-rounder. The Jaxton is a shell for skiers who build their own layers. The Samuel-FN and the Frost-DNM bring flannel and denim to the lift queue, both at minus 15C.
| Style | Fit | Warmth rating | Shell | Length | Key features |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cillian-WMK | Relaxed | Minus 20C | Novelty down fabric, 100% polyester | 72 cm (28.25 in) | Down-filled storm visor hood, thumb-hole storm cuffs, powder skirt, RECCO |
| Samuel-FN | Regular | Minus 15C | Flannel, 100% recycled polyester | 69 cm (27 in) | Storm visor hood, silicone tabs, interior shoulder straps, RECCO |

Cillian-WMK: the warmest Mackage men’s ski jacket
The Cillian-WMK in Black is rated to minus 20C, the lowest figure in the men’s group. Its shell is a novelty down fabric in 100% polyester with a textured surface, and the fill is listed as recycled polyester and down. It has water-resistant zippers at the centre front and pockets, RECCO, a detachable powder skirt, active storm cuffs with thumb holes and an adjustable storm visor hood with down fill. The relaxed fit is designed for heavier layers. For a shinier option, the high-gloss Cillian-GLO is covered in our Mackage ski wear overview.
Samuel-FN: flannel with a storm visor hood
The Samuel-FN is the flannel jacket of the group. The shell is 100% recycled polyester with a flannel face, labelled water repellent, over a 90% down and 10% feathers fill. It has a storm visor hood, a detachable powder skirt, branded silicone adjustable tabs, RECCO and interior adjustable elastic shoulder straps. The fit is regular, designed for heavier layers, and the rating is minus 15C. For a non-flannel option, the Samuel-SKI medium down ski jacket is still available.
Jaxton: the seam-sealed shell
The Jaxton in Black is the most technical-looking jacket here. Mackage describes it as water and wind resistant with a fully seam-sealed build, and it has a detachable powder skirt, zip sleeve vents with gussets, active storm cuffs with thumb holes, RECCO, a chest pocket and a snap placket. The composition lists 90% down and 10% feathers, yet the product page gives no temperature rating, and Mackage says it is designed to be worn on top of base layers. Treat it as a shell: its warmth depends on what you wear under it.
Care is different from the rest of the group: machine wash at no more than 30C on a normal setting, and do not tumble dry.
Frost-DNM: denim on the mountain
The Frost-DNM in Medium Denim looks like a workwear jacket but is built like a ski jacket. The shell is 100% polyester with a denim face and topstitched seams, and Mackage lists seam-sealed construction. Inside is a quilted 90% down lining. It has a velcro storm placket, a non-removable hood with an adjustable storm visor, 3D patch pockets with velcro flaps, rib-knit storm cuffs with thumb loops, RECCO and a Mackage patch on the left sleeve. At 78 cm it is the longest jacket here, and the fit is relaxed. More in our guide to Mackage denim ski jackets.
What ski pants go with Mackage ski jackets?
The Tate pants are built to match. Both versions have adjustable velcro waist tabs, a snow gaiter at the hem, a scuff guard at the inseam, water-resistant zipper pockets, a 3D zip pocket, a hook, bar and snap fly, and RECCO. The fit is regular with an 81 cm (32 in) inseam.
| Style | Shell | Fill | Fit | Pairs with |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tate | 100% polyester, water repellent and water resistant | None listed (shell) | Regular | Jaxton, Cillian-WMK |
| Tate-FN | Flannel, 100% recycled polyester | 100% polyester | Regular | Samuel-FN |
The Tate in Black has no temperature rating; like the Jaxton, it is a shell to wear over base layers. The Tate-FN in Grey Mix adds a polyester fill and matches the Samuel-FN for a full flannel suit. For a brighter pant, the Kenyon ski pant comes in six colours.
Are Mackage men’s ski jackets waterproof?
Mackage does not call any of them waterproof. The Jaxton is described as water and wind resistant, the Samuel-FN as water repellent, and the Cillian-WMK has water-resistant zippers. Seam sealing on the Jaxton and Frost-DNM helps keep water out at the seams, but no page gives a waterproof rating in millimetres. If you ski in wet climates, our guide to waterproof ratings explains what to look for.
Do Mackage ski jackets have RECCO?
Yes. The Samuel-FN, Jaxton, Frost-DNM, Cillian-WMK, Tate and Tate-FN all list RECCO technology. The reflector is passive, needs no power and no activation, and helps rescuers with a RECCO detector; it does not replace an avalanche transceiver. See What is RECCO? for the details.
How do Mackage men’s ski jackets fit?
Mackage uses two fits in this group. Regular (Samuel-FN, Jaxton) is a classic fit with room for comfort. Relaxed (Frost-DNM, Cillian-WMK) is looser, for heavier layers. The model on the product pages is 187 cm (6 ft 2 in) and wears a 40. Sizes run from 36 to 50. Check the Mackage size guide for measurements, and our guide to layering for skiing for what goes underneath.
How does Mackage compare with other luxury ski brands?
Mackage comes to the mountain from city outerwear, so its ski jackets lean on cut and fabric: flannel, denim and textured down cloth, with RECCO and powder skirts throughout. Specialist ski houses such as Bogner and Fusalp come from the opposite direction. Our list of the best luxury ski brands compares them, and if you want something for the city too, read Mackage Dixon vs Edward vs Moritz and Mackage shearling jackets.
