What is the warmest fur coat?

Sable and mink are among the warmest furs for their weight, and a full-length coat is warmer than a jacket. Shearling is the warmest everyday option.

How long does a fur coat last?

A well-kept mink coat lasts for decades. Store it in a cool, dark place in a breathable cover over the summer, and have it cleaned by a furrier once a year.

What is the difference between mink and sable?

Sable is softer, lighter and rarer than mink, with a silkier, longer pile, which makes it more expensive. Mink is more hard wearing and more widely available.

Is shearling a fur?

Shearling is sheepskin tanned with the fleece left on, so it is a fur product. It is worn fleece side in, with the suede side out.

How do I store a fur coat?

Hang it on a broad padded hanger in a breathable cotton cover, away from light and heat. Never store fur in plastic, and keep it out of a heated cupboard.

Can you wear a fur coat in the rain?

Light rain and snow are fine; shake the coat out and let it dry at room temperature, away from heat. Never brush wet fur, and never iron it.
