European linen
Linen is woven from flax. It is cool, it breathes, it gets softer with every wash and it creases, which is part of its charm. Alémais uses European linen on most of its holiday cuts: the Sail rope-print halter dresses, cropped shirt, shirtdress and shorts; the Alita shirt, top, pant, ruffle short and mini dress; the Lucena shirt and pant; the Basilia check dresses; the Sophie and Florero sundresses; and the Bermuda Buttercup short. The brand recommends a cold hand wash for most of them, then dry flat. The Bermuda Buttercup Short is the exception and is dry clean only.

Hemp
Hemp feels like a sturdier linen: slightly coarser at first, very strong, and softer with washing. It breathes well and holds a shape. The Lucena Wrap Skirt blends hemp with silk for more drape. Alessia hemp takes a cold hand wash; the hemp and silk wrap skirt is dry clean only.

The Alessia Midi Dress has a fitted hemp bodice, short puff sleeves and an A-line skirt.

The Alessia Bralette is a scoop neck hemp top with a shirred back and exposed zip.
Organic cotton, silk and blends
Organic cotton gives a crisper hand than linen and creases less. It is used for the Bermuda Buttercup dress, shirt and skirt, the Alita ruffle skirt and shirtdress, the Lucena midi dress and shirtdress, the Alessia Shirtdress and the Alba shirt, short and mini shirtdress. Silk is used for the Alba silk shirt, pant and midi dress, the Florero silk shirt and pant, the Xander spliced pieces and the Martos Silk Shirtdress. The Alba Shirtdress is a cotton silk blend, and the Sophie pieces are a silk and viscose jacquard with a little elastane.

The Florero Silk Pant is relaxed wide-leg silk with drawstring ties. Dry clean only.

How to choose and care
- For heat, choose linen and hemp. They breathe best and dry fastest.
- For fewer creases, choose organic cotton.
- For evening, choose silk and keep it for cooler hours.
- Follow the brand: cold hand wash and dry flat for most linen, hemp and cotton, dry clean only for silk, the jacquard and the wool knits.
