The crystal frames are what made Anna-Karin Karlsson famous: sunglasses faced, rimmed and studded with stones set one at a time. Beyoncé, Mary J. Blige, Fergie and Snoop Dogg all wear the Crystal Mirage; Winnie Harlow the Billion $ Boo. The crystal-faced frames

Beaming Sky is a square faced with a custom-made Swarovski crystal sheet, set by hand, on gold-plated steel temples, 69 g. Starry Sky is a square shield faced entirely in zirconia, 128 g and 154.5 mm across, the most theatrical frame the house makes. Both are made in Italy and both are occasion frames: the front row, the pool club, the stage.

The crystal-rimmed frames

Crystal Mirage outlines a rectangular lens in Swarovski crystals on Japanese titanium, 48 g, and is the frame the stage wearers chose. Crystal Boo is a square titanium frame with a Swarovski-set rim, 56 g. Billion $ Boo rings an oval in crystals on steel, 86 g. Magic You 2.0 rings a round in tapered baguette zirconia, 56 g. Le Boss 2.0 sets the brow bar of a navigator, 38 g.

The half-rim and the rimless

Full Moon puts a lower rim of Preciosa crystals under a round titanium lens, 37 g. Crystal Meringue does the same with Swarovski under a diamond-cut, swirl-edged lens. Crystal Nest Triangle sets the temples and leaves the lens rimless, 23 g, the lightest frame in the house.

Care

The stones are set, not glued, but the plating around them is real gold: keep perfume, hairspray and sunscreen off, clean with the cloth and mild soap, store in the case. Never swim in them.

Are Anna-Karin Karlsson crystals real Swarovski?

Yes on most frames; the house names Swarovski on the Beaming Sky, Crystal Mirage, Crystal Boo, Crystal Meringue, Crystal Nest, Billion $ Boo and Le Boss, and Preciosa on the Full Moon. The panthers, Starry Sky and Magic You use cubic zirconia.

Can I put prescription lenses in a crystal frame?
