Erdem Coat and Jacket Guide: 11 Pieces, Fit and Styling

0

An Erdem coat is romantic tailoring with real structure: Italian-woven wool, grain de poudre and jacquard, finished with hand-applied florals, satin backs and full linings. Shop Erdem coats such as the Floral Embroidered Wool Tailored Coat, size down a little on oversized cuts, and wear yours over gowns, skirts and wide trousers.

Outerwear is where fit decides everything, so read the Erdem size guide before you choose a size. This edit covers the coats, blazers and jackets in stock now, how each one is cut, and what to wear underneath, from black tie gowns to a pinstripe pencil skirt on a Tuesday.

  • Erdem coats and jackets come from the Pre-Fall 2026, Autumn Winter 2026 and Holiday 2027 collections.
  • Most Erdem tailoring is fully lined; the double-faced wool coats are unlined because the fabric is finished on both sides.
  • Oversized Erdem coats and jackets often advise sizing down, while fitted blazers usually fit true to size.
  • Several Autumn Winter 2026 pieces carry a threadwork patch marking the house’s 20th anniversary.
  • The Embroidered Jacquard Gilet Coat is part of the ERDEM X Barbour collaboration for Autumn Winter 2026.
  • Erdem ready-to-wear follows UK sizing, and Coveti lists UK 4 to 18.

What makes an Erdem coat different?

An Erdem coat pairs classic men’s tailoring cloth with the decoration of an evening dress. The shapes are familiar, a double-breasted lapel coat, a slim A-line, a belted wrap, but the surface is where Erdem Moralioglu does his work.

Take the Floral Embroidered Wool Tailored Coat. It is woven in Italy from brushed salt and pepper wool, then one side is covered with oversized black threadwork florals. Turn it over and a satin back gives a textural contrast you feel each time you slip it on. It has a loose fit, a double-breasted lapel, a centre back vent and a full lining.

That mix of practical cloth and hand finishing runs through the whole category. The house is known for florals, embroidery, lace and historical references, and on a coat those details are visible from across a room, which is exactly why people buy them.

Which Erdem coats are in the collection now?

There are six coats worth knowing this season, and they split neatly into tailored coats, belted coats and one technical outdoor piece.

The tailored coats

The Embroidered Grain De Poudre Tailored Coat is the most formal coat in the edit. Grain de poudre is a fine wool with a slightly grainy, powdery surface, the cloth of a good tuxedo. Erdem cuts it into a slim A-line with a peak lapel and double-breasted buttons, then adds flower appliques made from finely pleated petals, jet crystal stones and beaded fringing. It reads as eveningwear, so it belongs over a long dress.

For daytime, the Floral Applique Double Faced Wool Tailored Coat is quieter: grey melange wool with black silk ribbon applique, a lapel collar and flap-front welt pockets. Erdem’s own fit note says it fits oversized and recommends sizing down from your usual size.

The belted coats

The Textured Satin Wrap Coat is the closest thing in the collection to an opera coat, the long, generous evening coat made to go over formal dress. It splices historic jacquard with textured, embroidered satin, wraps open at the front and ties with a self belt. A threadwork patch on one sleeve celebrates 20 years of ERDEM.

The Floral Print Double Face Wool Belted Coat is softer and more relaxed. Grey brushed wool is printed with faded red poppies inspired by the Belle Epoque, with a crew neck, front patch pockets and a raw hem.

Do Erdem coats run large?

Yes, many do: the oversized coats and jackets are cut with deliberate volume, and Erdem fit notes on those styles often advise sizing down.

The brand copy is your best guide here, because it names the silhouette on every piece. Look for these phrases:

  • Oversized fit on the wrap coat, the belted double-face coat and the gilet coat: expect room through the shoulder and sleeve, and consider one size down if you want a neater line.
  • Loose fit on the embroidered wool tailored coat: roomy enough to wear over a jacket, but still tailored.
  • Slim A-line on the grain de poudre coat: fitted through the body, so take your usual size and check the shoulder.
  • Fit and flare on the peplum blazers: a nipped waist with a flared hem, made to sit close.

Erdem sizing is UK based. A UK 8 is a US 4, an EU 36 and an IT 40, and a UK 10 is a US 6 and an EU 38. If you are between sizes on a fitted blazer, go with your shoulder measurement, since that is the hardest part of any jacket to alter.

Which Erdem jackets and blazers are worth knowing?

Erdem jackets fall into three camps: sharp fitted blazers, cropped evening jackets and textured statement jackets. Browse the full range of blazers alongside the pieces below.

Fitted blazers

The Stripe Tailoring Fitted Blazer is navy wool with a broken pinstripe, a nipped waist and an exaggerated peplum hem. It is fully lined with a centre back vent, and it looks best with something narrow below, a pencil skirt in the same stripe being the obvious match.

The Grain De Poudre Blazer is the plainest piece here and the most useful. Black grain de poudre wool, a classic lapel, two-piece sleeves, breast welt pockets and a textured satin back, plus a threadwork patch referencing Autumn Winter 2026. Wear it with jeans, with a gown, with everything.

The Tweed Fitted Single Breasted Blazer is black and off-white tweed woven in Italy with mouline yarns for a flecked check, cut fit and flare with patch pockets and a raw selvedge hem.

Cropped and evening jackets

The Embellished Velvet Cropped Evening Jacket is from Holiday 2027, Erdem’s party-season drop. It has a loose, cropped fit, a crew neck, wide cropped sleeves and a full lining. Because it stops high, it suits a column gown and a full midi skirt equally well.

The Flower Jacquard Cropped Jacket is midnight blue matelasse jacquard shaped into a soft, boxy cocoon, with a single ecru poppy embroidered at the chest and glass bead fringing at its centre.

What do you wear an Erdem coat over?

Wear the structured coats over long dresses and slim skirts, and the oversized ones over trousers and knits.

Over gowns

For black tie, the grain de poudre coat and the satin wrap coat both work over a floor-length dress. Try the wrap coat over the Cloque Jacquard Draped Gown, the Holiday 2027 forest green gown with cap sleeves and a slim bow belt. Cap sleeves sit easily inside a coat sleeve, which matters more than people expect. Our guide to Erdem gowns covers lengths and dress codes in detail.

Over skirts

A fitted blazer over a midi skirt is the most wearable Erdem outfit there is. Pair the stripe blazer with the Stripe Tailoring Midi Pencil Skirt, virgin wool in the same broken pinstripe with a centre front slit. For more combinations see Erdem skirts.

Over trousers and shirts

The oversized coats balance a wide leg. The Grain De Poudre Wide Leg Trouser is the natural partner to the grain de poudre blazer, worn as a suit. Underneath, a sequin shirt turns that suit into evening dress; the edit of Erdem tops and shirts shows which ones layer best under tailoring. The full range of jackets is worth a browse if you want a second layer.

What is the Erdem x Barbour coat?

It is a waxed cotton coat from the ERDEM X Barbour collaboration, which has run from the Spring Summer 2024 runway through an outerwear capsule to Autumn Winter 2026.

The Embroidered Jacquard Gilet Coat comes with a detachable gilet in a patchwork of jacquard and cloque, under an oversized waxed coat with a wide corduroy collar. A threadwork label on one sleeve references the collaboration. The gilet has a crew neck and flap pocket, and it can be worn alone on milder days. It is the most practical coat in the collection, and the one built for real weather.

How do you care for an Erdem coat?

Follow the care label on your coat, and treat embroidered pieces with extra caution.

Embellished coats with crystals, beading and pleated appliques should go to a specialist cleaner who handles couture finishes. Hang wool coats on a broad, shaped hanger so the shoulders keep their line, and give them space in the wardrobe so appliques are not crushed. Brush wool gently after wear. Waxed cotton is a different material altogether, so check the label on the Barbour piece before cleaning it.
