Is Shona Joy Good Quality? What 162 Pieces Tell Us
Shona Joy is good quality for its price. Its strength is fabric choice rather than heavy construction: most of the label’s dresses are made from viscose satins, georgettes and jerseys that drape well and feel soft against the skin, and a large share use LENZING ECOVERO viscose. The trade-off is care. Viscose satin marks easily and most pieces are hand wash cold, dry clean only. To give a straight answer, we looked at the fabric labels of every Shona Joy style and colourway Coveti has catalogued in 2026, 162 in all.
What Shona Joy is made from
Viscose dominates. About half of the 162 pieces are majority viscose, and nearly half are made entirely of viscose fibre once LENZING ECOVERO is counted as the viscose it is. Around a third use LENZING ECOVERO, a branded viscose from the Austrian fibre maker Lenzing, usually blended with standard viscose, as in the La Lune Lace Back Maxi Dress (58% LENZING ECOVERO, 42% viscose) and the Eniko Lace Gathered Maxi Dress (62% viscose, 38% LENZING ECOVERO viscose).
Around seven in ten Shona Joy pieces are mostly natural fibre, counting plant-based viscose with cotton, linen, silk and wool. About three in ten are mostly synthetic. Those are the satins made from polyester and acetate, like the Savanna Racer Back Maxi Dress, the sequinned mesh of the Everly pieces and the suiting blends of the blazers. Pure silk is rare: only two of the 162 pieces were 100% silk.
Fabric by fabric
Viscose satin. The house signature. It has a soft sheen and drapes well, which is why the La Lune slip dresses move the way they do. It creases and water marks more readily than polyester satin, so steam it and keep it away from rain.
Viscose georgette. A light, semi-sheer crepe used on the Amina and Irving pieces. It is airy and light, and moves well in warm weather.
Slinky jersey. The Miro dresses use a viscose and elastane jersey, 91% and 9%. It is the most forgiving fabric in the range to wear and to travel with.
Polyester and acetate satin. Heavier and crisper than viscose satin, with a deeper shine. It holds a shape better, which suits the sculpted Savanna and Bianca styles.
Lace. Shona Joy lace is used two ways: as panels set into satin on the Eniko and Jamila styles, and as a whole sheer nylon lace dress on the new Labyrinth Sheer Lace Panelled Maxi Dress.
Stretch cotton. The Campbell dresses use a cotton, nylon and elastane blend with real structure, which lets the ruched and ruffled shapes hold without boning.
Construction and finish
Shona Joy dresses are made for occasions, and the finishing reflects that. Of the Fall 2026 pieces we checked, about half close with an invisible zip, and the sheer styles come lined where the brand thinks a lining is needed. The brand designs in Sydney, and its FY21/22 impact report listed all of its suppliers as based in China, with quality control at its head office in Rosebery, Sydney. The current website does not name a country of manufacture. It is a contemporary label rather than a couture house, so expect neat, well-planned construction rather than hand finishing, and expect the price to reflect fabric and design rather than artisanal work. Our look at whether Shona Joy is a luxury brand covers where it sits in the market.
Is Shona Joy sustainable?
Partly. Shona Joy runs a sustainability programme it calls Second Nature, and its FY21/22 impact report named LENZING ECOVERO as the main fabric of the La Lune line and recycled polyester as the main fabric of its Luxe line. Lenzing and the brand say ECOVERO creates 50% less greenhouse gas than conventional viscose. The independent rating site Good On You is less generous: its rating, last updated in November 2022, is Not Good Enough, with 2 out of 5 for planet, 2 out of 5 for people and 4 out of 5 for animals. Choosing the ECOVERO pieces, and keeping them for years, is the most sustainable way to buy the label.
How long does Shona Joy last?
With the right care, a Shona Joy dress lasts for years of occasions. The labels are clear about what each fabric needs: most viscose pieces are cold hand wash, dried flat in the shade and never tumble dried, and the sequinned, beaded and lace pieces are dry clean only. Follow those instructions and the satin keeps its sheen. Ignore them and viscose can shrink and lose its drape. Each product page at Coveti carries the brand’s own care instructions.
Is Shona Joy worth the money?
For bridal parties, weddings and evening events, yes. A Shona Joy dress costs a fraction of a designer gown while offering a well-judged cut and a fabric that photographs well. It is less suited to heavy daily wear, where a sturdier cotton will outlast a viscose satin. If you want the most durable Shona Joy pieces, choose the jersey Miro dresses, the stretch cotton Campbell styles and the suiting. If you want the most beautiful, choose the La Lune satins and treat them gently. Browse the full range on the Shona Joy page at Coveti.
Frequently asked questions
Is Shona Joy good quality?
Yes, for a contemporary label. It uses well-chosen fabrics, mostly viscose satins, georgettes and jerseys, and its construction is neat. The pieces need careful washing to last.
What fabric does Shona Joy use?
Mainly viscose. Of 162 Shona Joy pieces Coveti catalogued in 2026, about half were majority viscose and around a third used LENZING ECOVERO viscose. The rest are polyester and acetate satins, cotton blends, linen, nylon lace and sequinned mesh.
Is Shona Joy made of silk?
Rarely. Only two of the 162 pieces we checked were 100% silk. The satin look comes from viscose and acetate satins.
How do you wash a Shona Joy dress?
Follow the label. Most viscose pieces are cold hand wash, dried flat in the shade and never tumble dried. Lace, sequin and beaded pieces are dry clean only.
Where is Shona Joy made?
Shona Joy designs in Sydney. Its FY21/22 impact report listed all of its suppliers as based in China, and the current website does not name a country of manufacture.
