Shona Joy La Lune: The Complete Collection Guide

0

La Lune is Shona Joy’s signature event collection, and the reason so many bridal parties end up in Shona Joy. The brand describes it as its premium event wear line, with a soft-touch feel, and it runs from slip dresses to flowing gowns for the bride, the bridesmaid and the guest. The idea is simple: one fabric, a small set of colours and many necklines, so a group can wear the same shade in shapes that suit each of them. This guide explains what La Lune is made from, the styles we carry, how the colours work together and how the dresses fit.

What is Shona Joy La Lune?

La Lune pieces share one thing above all: the fabric. Almost the whole collection is made from LENZING ECOVERO viscose with a satin finish, and the brand’s FY21/22 impact report named 100% LENZING ECOVERO as the line’s main fabric. The current La Lune dresses at Coveti are a soft-touch satin of 58% LENZING ECOVERO viscose and 42% viscose, with a gentle sheen rather than a high shine. Shona Joy makes La Lune in mini, midi and maxi lengths, and the line also includes separates such as the La Lune High Waist Maxi Skirt. The collection was already on the brand’s website by August 2020.

The La Lune styles

The variety is in the neckline and the back. These are the La Lune dresses we carry now:

La Lune colours

La Lune works because the colours are designed to sit together. Shiraz is a deep wine red, Fern a soft sage green and Blossom a pale petal pink. Gold is a warm metallic satin, and Cream and White are the bridal shades. Within one colour, a bridal party can choose different necklines and still look like a set: Shiraz, for instance, runs across the Lace Back, Plunged Cross Back and Long Sleeve Wrap dresses. Fern does the same across the Lace Back, Long Sleeve Wrap, Ruched Halter and Scarf Panelled styles.

How to choose La Lune for bridesmaids

  • Pick the colour first, then let each bridesmaid pick a neckline. A halter suits strong shoulders, the long sleeve wrap suits a cooler ceremony, and the plunged cross back suits anyone who wants a dramatic back.
  • Think about the season. Shiraz and Gold sit best at autumn and winter weddings and evening receptions. Fern and Blossom suit spring, garden and daytime weddings.
  • Keep the length the same. All the dresses above are maxi length, which keeps a group looking unified even when the necklines differ.

Our Shona Joy bridesmaid guide covers the wider bridesmaid range, and the Shona Joy bridal guide covers the ivory pieces for the bride.

How La Lune fits

La Lune satin follows the body, so most styles fit close through the bust and hips and skim rather than grip. Shona Joy sizes La Lune in Australian sizes, which match UK sizing. Satin shows every line, so check the fit notes and the model’s size on each product page, and choose seamless underwear. Our Shona Joy fit guide goes into detail.

How to care for La Lune

Viscose satin needs a gentle hand. Follow the care label on each piece, which for most viscose satin means a cold hand wash, drying flat in the shade and no tumble dryer. Steam rather than iron where you can, and keep the dress away from rain and perfume, which can mark satin. Our guide to Shona Joy fabrics and quality explains why.
