Which styles are the most comfortable

The most forgiving are the pieces the house describes with stretch through the fabric: the Audran, Barbeau, Cardinale, Mansfield and the new Rumi are cut in a crepe with elastane, so they move when you sit, eat and dance. The skimming styles, such as the Seldon and the Newman, have little stretch but do not grip, so they are easy in a different way.

The firmest are the corseted gowns, the Seri, Alta, Pieta, Reynolds and Andress, which the house designs to sculpt the body with minimal stretch. They are comfortable in the right size and unforgiving in the wrong one; our corset gown guide explains how to size them.

Fabric and lining

Most Solace London shells are polyester twill and crepe. Of the 95 styles at Coveti with a published description, 84 are fully lined, many with a 95% polyester, 5% elastane lining. That lining is why a style with a non-stretch shell can still feel smooth against the skin. All 95 published care labels read dry clean only.

Comfort and fit around the world

• US: Solace London cuts in UK sizes, so subtract four for your US size: a UK 8 is a US 4 and a UK 16 is a US 12.
• UK: UK sizes 4 to 16 are the house’s own scale, so order your usual size and check the fit line in the table above.
• EU: Add 28 to the UK size for the European equivalent: a UK 8 is an EU 36 and a UK 12 is an EU 40.
• GCC: The same UK sizes apply in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Kuwait.
