What Is Solace London Made Of? Fabrics, Comfort and Care
Solace London dresses are made almost entirely from polyester, often with a little elastane, in a small set of cloths the brand names by weight and finish: medium weight twill with subtle sheen, lightly textured bonded crepe, stretch knit crepe, lightweight woven crepe and lustrous heavy weight satin. Of the 344 Solace London styles in stock at Coveti on 27 October 2026, 343 are labelled dry clean only. That answer explains a lot about how the dresses look, how they feel and how they fit. The fabrics, one by one
Medium weight twill with subtle sheen. A firm woven cloth with a faint diagonal and a low gloss. It holds a sculpted shape without much help, which is why it turns up in boned and corseted styles. It has very little give.
Lightly textured bonded crepe. Two layers fused together, with a matte, slightly grainy face. Bonding gives body and a clean edge, so the brand uses it for strapless bodices, ruffle overlays and graphic panels. Also very little give.
Stretch knit crepe. A knitted crepe with elastane, usually 95% polyester and 5% elastane. It moves with you and clings more, so it suits column and body conscious styles such as the Francoise, Mansfield, Bradshaw and Barbeau. Coveti stocks 31 styles that name it.
Lightweight woven crepe. A lighter, drapier crepe for one-shoulder styles with a long sleeve and soft folds, such as the Seldon.
Heavy weight satin. A dense, glossy satin used for drapes, scarves and contrast panels, as on the Audran and Barbeau, where a satin scarf falls from a crepe body.
Some styles are fully embellished, with crystals set into the twill, as on the Swanson and Allyson. Linings are polyester, often with elastane, and many styles are fully lined to sculpt the body.
Are Solace London dresses comfortable?
It depends on the fabric, and the product page tells you which you are getting. The stretch knit crepe styles are the most comfortable for a long evening: they move, they sit well, and you can eat a seated dinner in them. The boned twill and bonded crepe styles are built to hold you, and they do; they feel structured, like a corset, and they reward good posture. Most people find them comfortable for a reception and a few hours of dancing, less so for twelve hours.
Three practical points help. Fit matters more than size: a boned bodice that is too tight will be uncomfortable, so go up one size if you are between two. Linings help: a fully lined dress feels smoother and less scratchy than an unlined one. And the polyester base does not breathe like silk, so in heat choose the lighter crepes and avoid heavy satin.

Why polyester, at this price?
A fair question. Polyester crepe and twill hold a sculpted shape better than most natural fibres, keep their colour, resist creasing in a suitcase and do not stretch out over an evening. For the brand’s look, which is all about a clean, architectural line, that is a design choice rather than a shortcut. You pay for the cut, the boning, the lining and the finish more than for the fibre. If you want silk, this is not the label for it.
How to care for a Solace London dress
The care label on almost every style reads: dry clean only, cool iron, do not tumble dry, do not bleach. In practice, steam rather than iron, store on a padded hanger in a breathable cover, and keep boned styles hanging so the bodice keeps its shape. Take stains to a specialist cleaner quickly, and tell them the dress is boned.
