How Solace London builds a cape

There are three constructions in the current range, and they wear differently. The Veya and the Newman pair a one-shoulder bodice with a sleeve that runs to the floor, so the cape is attached at the shoulder and moves with the arm. The Seldon splits that sleeve to the elbow, which frees the hand for a glass and a clutch. The Audran, Barbeau and Mansfield use a separate scarf: the Audran in heavy satin to the floor, the Barbeau and Mansfield as a soft contrasting drape with a cowl at the back. The Francoise moves the idea to the neck, with a scarf necktie and a waterfall cuff.

The practical difference is weight on one side. A floor-length sleeve pulls the neckline slightly toward it, so the bodice has to fit closely to stay level. The Veya sits close, with a stretch lining under its polyester twill shell; the Seldon is cut to skim rather than grip.

Which cape dress for which occasion

For black tie, the Veya and the Newman are the most formal: full length, a single shoulder and a sleeve that reaches the hem. For a winter wedding, the Francoise covers both arms and still reads as evening.
