Solace London is a British eveningwear label founded in London in 2013 by Laura Taylor and Ryan Holliday-Stevens, known for sculpted crepe and twill gowns. The pair met years before the label began, when Laura was managing a specialty store in Leeds and Ryan was selling his own line there. Selfridges was the first stockist, Net-a-Porter followed, and the brand made its New York Fashion Week debut in September 2017 with its Spring 2018 collection.

The Solace London look

The founders describe their aesthetic as “Bold, confident, refined. Modern futurism balanced with timeless minimalism.” In practice that means one strong line per dress and very little decoration. The signatures are boned strapless gowns, one-shoulder maxis with a long sleeve split to the elbow, off-the-shoulder necklines with sculpted sleeves, and long-sleeved, high-neck columns. The brand groups its best-known shapes in an Icons range, and runs separate Bridal and Modest sections.

Fabrics and construction

Solace London names its cloths by weight and finish: medium weight twill with subtle sheen, lightly textured bonded crepe, medium weight stretch knit crepe and lustrous heavy weight satin. The fibre is mostly polyester, with linings in polyester and elastane. Most styles are fully lined, many gowns have a boned bodice for support, and care is dry clean only.
