Magda Butrym Coats and Tailoring: the Pre-Fall 2026 Outerwear

Magda Butrym is known for the rose and the eveningwear, so the outerwear tends to get overlooked. That is a mistake this season. The Pre-Fall 2026 delivery is the strongest run of coats and tailoring the house has made, and it is where the sculptural instinct that shapes the gowns gets applied to something you can wear on a Tuesday.

The coats

Three, and they solve three different problems.

• Cape-style coat with scarf in beige, $5,070. A long fluid cape with an integrated wide scarf and a high stand collar, finished with concealed buttons and an oval hem that gives it movement. The house calls this one oversized and means it. This is the dramatic option, and it is the piece to buy if you want the coat to be the outfit.
• Trench coat with extended collar in grey, $5,230. The most useful thing in the group. A regular fit with an exaggerated collar and a self-belt, in a grey that goes with everything already in your wardrobe.
• Straight cotton coat in black, $4,430. The quiet one. Clean line, regular fit, no detailing to date it.

The jackets

Five, and this is where the collection gets less predictable.

• Leather bomber with knit shawl collar in black, $6,190. The most expensive piece here and the most interesting. Leather body, knitted shawl collar, two materials that should not work together doing exactly that.
• Padded jacket with scarf in beige, $4,870. Padding treated as a luxury proposition rather than a technical one, with the same scarf idea as the cape coat.
• Padded jacket with dropped shoulder, in khaki and navy, $3,450 to $3,470. The entry point to the outerwear, and the two most wearable pieces in the group.
• Cotton utility jacket with belt in khaki, $4,150. A belted utility shape that reads softer than the reference it comes from.

The blazers

Two, and they are the pieces that could only be this house. The cotton blazer with rose peplum in black and the wool blazer in grey, both $4,150, set sculptural roses beneath the front pockets so the hem flares into a peplum. Structured shoulder inserts, narrow sleeves, waist darts. Tailoring with a couture gesture attached, and the clearest expression of the Magda Butrym rose in a piece you can wear to work.

What to buy first

If you own no Magda Butrym outerwear, the grey trench is the one. It is the least seasonal, the most layerable, and the easiest to justify at the price because you will wear it from October through April.

If you already have a good neutral coat, skip to the padded jacket in navy. It is the cheapest thing in the group and the one that fills an actual gap in most wardrobes, which a fourth black coat does not.

Buy the cape coat only if you want it. It is beautiful and it is not a workhorse.

Fit and layering

The coats are cut to layer over knitwear at your usual size. The cape-style coat is the one exception, built oversized on purpose, so there is no reason to size up on it.
