Magda Butrym review: quality, fit, what is worth the money
Coveti has sold Magda Butrym since 2026 and dressed its fittings with the current and the previous seasons, so this review comes from the rail, not the runway. The short version: the house makes sculptural, romantic clothes with real construction behind them, silk linings, boned bodices, padded hips that do what they promise, and it prices them as a luxury brand, a median of $2,050 across 629 pieces on 20 September 2026. The dresses and the leather are worth it; the rib tanks are the way in; the crochet needs care; and the sizing is true. This page is each judgement with the evidence.
Key facts
- 629 pieces on Coveti, $450 to $14,670, median $2,050
- Fabrics: silk, cotton and silk, GOTS cotton, RWS wool, cupro, lyocell, sheep, goat and calf leather, hand crochet; silk linings on the sculpted pieces
- Fit: The house cuts EU 32 to 42, which Coveti lists as UK 4 to 14; 210 of the 310 product pages that state a fit say regular, 85 slim and 8 oversized, and the model wears a 34
- Make: the bags state Italy on the Brigitte pages; the crochet flats, crochet slingbacks and flower mules state Italy; the ready-to-wear pages do not state a country
- Care: dry clean the tailoring and silk, hand wash the crochet cold, wipe the leather
The fabrics and the make
The compositions are honest. Silk is silk, the cotton-silk is 51/49, the wool is RWS, and the sculpted pieces are lined in silk rather than polyester. The corset bodices hold their shape on the hanger and the padded hips are light rather than costume. The leather is sheep and calf, lined in viscose, with a belt that actually belts.
The fit
The house cuts EU 32 to 42, which Coveti lists as UK 4 to 14; 210 of the 310 product pages that state a fit say regular, 85 slim and 8 oversized, and the model wears a 34, and the house does not tell customers to size up anywhere except the crochet ballet flats. In the fitting room that holds: a 34 is a UK 6 on the corset pieces if the bust matches, and the silk dresses forgive a size either way. The size guide has the table.
What is worth the money
The rose dresses and the corset dresses, because nothing else does that shape; the belted leather jackets, because the leather is good and the cut is the house in one piece; the Brigitte, made in Italy with the charm. The dress guide, the leather page and the Brigitte page have them.
What to think about
The crochet is handmade and beautiful and it needs care: hand wash cold, dry flat, and the crochet flats run narrow. The satin shoes mark in rain. The jewellery is plated brass, not gold, and priced for the design. None of these are faults; they are the terms. The crochet page and the jewellery page say so.
The way in
The knotted ribbed tank at $710 and the swim tops are the cheapest pieces of the house, and they are the real thing. The tops page and the swimwear page start there.
The verdict
Buy the dresses, the leather and the Brigitte at full price; buy the tanks and the swim to wear the house every day; treat the crochet and the satin as the delicate pieces they are. It is a luxury brand that earns the word on construction, and it is the only house doing the rose.
