Apres Ski Outfits for Men: What to Wear Off the Slopes

The best apres ski outfit for men is a chunky knit, warm trousers, lined boots and a shearling layer, chosen to look good in a chalet bar and still cope with the walk back through the snow. Brunello Cucinelli built its men’s Winter Edit around that mountain idea, and the pieces sit in our men’s coats and knitwear edits at Coveti.

What should men wear apres ski?

Apres ski is the part of a ski day that happens after the lifts close: a terrace drink at four, a fondue at seven, a late bar after that. The clothes have one job, which is to take you out of technical ski wear and into something you would happily be photographed in, without making you cold on the way. That means real fibres, real texture and footwear that grips.

Brunello Cucinelli describes its men’s Winter Edit as urban elegance meeting mountain inspiration: cashmere, wool, alpaca, shearling and suede, with technical materials and thermal padding next to Argyle and Prince of Wales patterns. It is, in effect, an apres ski wardrobe. Our guide to the Brunello Cucinelli Winter Edit walks through the full capsule, and Brunello Cucinelli menswear explains the wider men’s line. If you are still choosing what to ski in, start with our edit of the best luxury men’s ski jackets, then come back here for the evening.

The apres ski formula

Layer What works From the Coveti edit
Outer layer Parka with a shearling hood, shearling jacket, down jacket with a corduroy trim Stretch bonded nylon parka, Curly Wool Suede Lambskin Shearling Jacket
Knit Alpaca, cashmere, a pattern such as Argyle, a roll neck Alpaca-blend sweater, Argyle intarsia sweater, Cashmere turtleneck sweater
Trousers Corduroy, flannel, soft cashmere jersey Corduroy trousers, Cashmere jersey trousers
Boots Suede, waxed leather, a rubber sole with grip Suede mountain-style boots, Aged calfskin and waxed nylon boots
Accessories Shearling gloves, a cashmere beanie, a weekend bag Shearling gloves, English Rib Cashmere Beanie, Nubuck Country Weekender bag

The outer layer

This is the piece that makes the outfit. It has to be warm enough for the walk between the bar and the chalet and good-looking enough to keep on at a terrace table. The Stretch bonded nylon parka in Off-White is Brunello Cucinelli’s answer: a clean technical shell with a shearling insert on the hood and lightweight Thermore padding, a synthetic insulation. Off-white looks right against snow and keeps the outfit light.

For a more traditional mountain look, shearling is hard to beat. The Curly Wool Suede Lambskin Shearling Jacket in Brown from Yves Salomon has the texture an apres ski outfit wants, and Moncler’s Givrand Shearling-Trimmed Corduroy Short Down Jacket in Brown combines down, corduroy and shearling in one piece.

The knit

A chalet is warm once you are inside, so the knit is what you will be seen in for most of the evening. Choose texture over thickness. The Alpaca-blend sweater in Anthracite is 55% alpaca, 25% nylon, 14% cashmere and 6% wool, which gives it a lofty, brushed surface that reads as mountain wear immediately. Its sibling, the Argyle intarsia sweater in Dark Grey, uses the same blend with a pattern that belongs on a ski weekend.

For a cleaner look, wear a roll neck. The Cashmere turtleneck sweater in Panama is 100% cashmere in a warm neutral that pairs with every outer layer above.

The trousers

Take the ski trousers off. Apres ski is the moment for soft, warm trousers with some texture. Corduroy is the natural choice, and the Corduroy trousers in White look particularly good in the mountains, with a dark knit and suede boots. Our guide to men’s corduroy trousers covers wale and fit. For a quieter chalet evening, the cashmere jersey trousers in Stone Grey are 100% cashmere and as comfortable as they sound, best with the matching cashmere jersey sweater.

The boots

Boots are where apres ski outfits fail most often. You need a sole with grip for icy pavements, and you want something better-looking than a snow boot. The Suede mountain-style boots in Dark Grey take their shape from classic mountain boots, cut in suede, and look best with cords. For wetter evenings, the Aged calfskin and waxed nylon boots in Black have a shearling lining and a TPU rubber sole. Our Brunello Cucinelli boots guide covers every style, plus care for suede and aged calfskin.

The accessories

  • Gloves. The Shearling gloves in Sand are 100% shearling and look right with every outer layer in this guide.
  • A hat. Herno’s English Rib Cashmere Beanie in Camel is a smart, neat choice that does not look like ski kit.
  • A bag. For a weekend away, the nubuck Country Weekender bag in brown holds the evening wardrobe and looks at home in a chalet hallway.

Four apres ski outfits for men

The terrace drink

Off-white parka, Argyle intarsia sweater, white corduroy trousers, suede mountain boots. Sunglasses stay on.

The chalet dinner

Cashmere turtleneck in Panama, corduroy trousers, suede boots, with a shearling jacket for the walk. Formal enough for a good restaurant, relaxed enough for a fondue.

The night in

Cashmere jersey sweater and trousers in Stone Grey, the shearling gloves left by the door. The quietest look in the edit, and the most comfortable.

The late bar

Alpaca-blend sweater in Anthracite, dark trousers, the aged calfskin boots and a shearling-trimmed down jacket. Dark, warm and ready for snow on the way home.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should men wear for apres ski?

Swap ski wear for a textured knit, warm trousers such as corduroy, boots with a grippy sole and a shearling jacket. A parka with a shearling hood works too. Finish with gloves and a beanie.

What shoes are best for apres ski?

Boots with a rubber sole and a sturdy upper, such as suede mountain-style boots and aged calfskin boots with a shearling lining. Avoid smooth leather soles on snowy pavements.

Can you wear jeans for apres ski?

Yes, dark denim works with a chunky knit and boots, but corduroy and flannel feel more at home in a chalet and are softer for a long evening.

What is a good apres ski jacket for men?

A shearling jacket, a down jacket with corduroy and shearling trims, and a parka with a shearling hood all work. Choose one that looks smart enough to keep on at a terrace table.

What size Brunello Cucinelli boots should I buy?

Brunello Cucinelli men’s shoes are cut on the European scale, and Coveti shows them in UK sizes using UK equals EU minus 34, so an EU 42 is a UK 8. The brand publishes no fit guidance beyond its size scale, so compare with a pair of boots you already own.
