Rosa de la Cruz: The London Jewellery House Explained
Rosa de la Cruz is a London fine jewellery house founded in 2010 by Rosa de la Cruz and Tierney Horne, and it is best known for its original Smile collection in 18 carat gold. Who founded Rosa de la Cruz?
Rosa de la Cruz was born in Madrid. She studied at Wharton, at the University of Pennsylvania, and then at Columbia Law School. She began her career as an attorney at the Guggenheim Museum in New York and started designing jewellery in 2000. She is the daughter of Rosa and Carlos de la Cruz, the Cuban art collectors and philanthropists who founded the de la Cruz Collection in Miami.
Tierney Horne was born in New York. She started at Ralph Lauren womenswear, moved to Vogue US and took part in the launch of J.Crew as creative director. She was later fashion director at Elle and Mademoiselle in the US and at Harper’s and Queen in the UK, and she has worked on projects for Connolly, Joseph and NetJets.
The two set up the house in London in 2010. The starting point was their own vintage jewellery, collected over years, and the qualities they valued in it: careful craftsmanship and designs that do not date. That is why the line leans on classic forms such as coin pendants, link chains, charms and bangles, finished in solid 18 carat gold.
What is Rosa de la Cruz known for?
The Smile collection is the signature. It runs from the plain gold 9mm pendant to diamond pendants, rings, studs, mini hoops and bangles, and it is where most first-time buyers begin. Our guide to Rosa de la Cruz Smile jewellery walks through every size, stone and metal.
Stars come next, set with brown diamonds in yellow gold, rose gold and 18K Rhodium Gold. The dark rhodium finish gives brown and black diamonds a graphic, almost monochrome look against the metal. Brown diamonds run through much of the line. They take their colour from structural irregularities in the crystal lattice and were once marketed as “chocolate” and “champagne” diamonds.
The third signature is carved ebony set in 18 carat gold: bangles, cuffs, link bracelets, figa pendants and gem rings. Colour comes from turquoise, malachite, lapis, coral, pearls, sapphires, emerald and garnet, used across coin pendants, bead necklaces and charms. A few chains are made in sterling silver, but almost everything else is solid gold.
What to buy first
These seven pieces cover the house signatures at a range of prices. Each is a good first purchase that will still make sense once you own more of the line.
1. Smile Pendant 9mm in 18K Yellow Gold, $2,400
The smallest way into the Smile collection, in plain 18 carat yellow gold. It sits close to the collarbone and layers easily with chains you already own.
2. Smile Ring in 18K Yellow Gold and Brown Diamond, $4,330
The Smile motif as a ring, with brown diamonds against yellow gold. Rings come in EU sizes 52 and 53, with a bespoke size made to order in 4-6 weeks.
3. Star Studs in 18K Yellow Gold, Brown Diamond, Pair, $2,390

Rings come in EU sizes 52 and 53. A bespoke size is made to order in 4-6 weeks and is final sale, so confirm your size before you order.
Coin pendants carry unique stones, so the lapis, malachite and turquoise on your piece will vary from the photo. Coveti prices are in USD, and every order ships worldwide, insured and signed for.
