ME+EM Velvet: Dresses, Blazers and Trousers for AW26

0

ME+EM’s velvet for Autumn Winter 2026 comes in three weights: a silk-blend velvet (82% viscose, 18% silk) for the evening dresses and the Soft Contour Blazer, an Italian cotton velvet with stretch for the Sharp Shoulder Blazer and the Leg Elongator Trouser, and a fluid velour jersey for the AM-PM tees, skirts and wide-leg trousers. On Coveti the velvet pieces run from $250 for a velour tee to $840 for a silk-blend velvet maxi dress.

Velvet is the one fabric that makes a plain shape look like eveningwear, which is why ME+EM uses it on its simplest silhouettes. This guide sorts the season’s velvet by weight, explains how each one wears and what to put with it. Shop the full brand at ME+EM on Coveti.

The silk-blend velvet dresses

These are the pieces to buy for a party season. The silk fibres make the velvet softer and help it drape, so the skirt moves instead of standing away from the body. Each dress is fitted at the waist and flares out, with discreet hook-and-eye fastenings at the neckline.

All three are cut on the UK ladder from 4 to 18 and fit true to size. If you are between sizes, take the larger one for velvet: it does not stretch, and a dress that pulls at the waist shows every crease. Our ME+EM size guide has the full conversion to US and EU sizes.

Velvet blazers

A velvet blazer is the easiest way to wear the fabric by day. ME+EM has two this season, and they are cut quite differently.

Soft Contour Blazer

The Soft Contour Blazer in Bay Green ($840) is in the same silk-blend velvet as the dresses. It has darted seams and a ruched back panel that shape it gently at the waist, so it suits a dress as well as trousers. Bay Green is a deep bottle green that works with black, cream and brown.

Sharp Shoulder Blazer

The Sharp Shoulder Blazer in Dark Chocolate Brown ($810) is longer and stronger in the shoulder, made from Italian cotton velvet with a little stretch. It is the one to wear with jeans and a cashmere crew neck.

Velvet trousers and skirts

Velvet trousers look best in a full, straight leg, because the pile catches the light along the length of the leg. ME+EM’s wide-leg shapes are exactly that.

Velour tops: velvet for every day

The AM-PM velour tops are the budget route into the trend. The fabric has the sheen of velvet with the stretch of jersey, so it can be worn tucked into tailoring and washed like a T-shirt.

A velour tee with the matching wide-leg trouser makes an evening set for under $650.

How to wear velvet without looking dressed up

Velvet looks most modern when one piece in the outfit is plain and matte. Three combinations that work:

  • A velvet blazer with straight jeans, a white shirt and loafers.
  • A velour skirt with a chunky cashmere jumper and boots. See our ME+EM knitwear guide for the jumpers.
  • A velvet dress with flat shoes rather than heels, which takes it from formal to dinner with friends.

Keep jewellery to one gold piece: velvet already reflects light, and too much shine competes with it.

Caring for velvet

Follow the care label on each product page. As a rule, silk-blend velvet should be dry cleaned, never ironed directly, and hung rather than folded so the pile does not crush. Steam from the inside to lift creases. Velour jersey is far easier and can usually be washed on a cool, gentle cycle. Store velvet with space around it in the wardrobe.

Frequently asked questions

Does ME+EM make velvet dresses?

Yes. For Autumn Winter 2026 ME+EM has Fit + Flare velvet dresses in a silk-blend velvet of 82% viscose and 18% silk, as a maxi in Black and Barolo Red and as a midi in Double Espresso, each $840 on Coveti.

What is ME+EM fluid velour?

Fluid velour is ME+EM’s velvet-look jersey, made from 89% polyester and 11% elastane. It is used for the AM-PM tees, tops, midi skirt and wide-leg trousers, and it stretches like jersey.

Is a velvet blazer worth it?

A velvet blazer is one of the most worn pieces in a winter wardrobe because it dresses up jeans by day and covers a dress at night. ME+EM’s Soft Contour Blazer is silk-blend velvet and the Sharp Shoulder Blazer is Italian cotton velvet.

How do you stop velvet from crushing?

Hang velvet on a padded hanger with space around it, never fold it under weight, and steam it from the inside to lift flattened pile. Do not press an iron directly onto the face of the fabric.

Does ME+EM velvet run small?

ME+EM velvet pieces fit true to size on the UK ladder from 4 to 18. Velvet has little give, so if you are between sizes choose the larger one.
