Totême car coat, bridge coat and peacoat: the short list of shapes
The car coat, the bridge coat and the peacoat are coats designed for weather and movement, and Totême cuts all three. The pieces are in the Totême collection at Coveti; for other labels see designer coats, and for the next step the coats guide. The car coat is the one to drive and cycle in: hip to knee length, weather-resistant, with a flannel lining you can take out. The bridge coat, new for Pre-Spring 2027, is the naval coat that the peacoat came from, long and double-breasted, and the house derives it from its own Signature trench. The broad coat is the house version of a peacoat taken long, with broad shoulders after the Chesterfield. 13 coats on Coveti, $1,930 to $4,754, median $2,134. This page is each shape, its fabric and how it fits.

The car coat
Car coats were cut short enough to sit in a car without crumpling. The Totême version in washed army green is generously oversized, in an A-line with extra-low shoulders, so it goes over a blazer. The fabric is weather-resistant, the front closes with concealed buttons, and the cuffs have button tabs to close out the wind. The point is the flannel lining in cotton, which buttons out for spring. The brand says it runs large; take your usual size for the drop shoulder.
The shearling-collar bridge coat
The bridge coat is the long double-breasted coat officers wore on the bridge of a ship, and the peacoat is its shorter descendant. Totême builds it from the Signature trench, in a tactile RWS wool bouclé, with sharp shoulders, a straight line and a long-haired shearling collar that comes off. With the collar it is a winter coat for the coldest days; without it, a clean navy-school coat over tailoring.
The broad coat
A long coat inspired by the Chesterfield, the formal overcoat of the 19th century: broad shoulders, a structured fit, flap pockets. The Pre-Spring 2027 version is soft charcoal mélange cashmere, most of it recycled, fully lined. It is the most formal coat here.
The shawl lapel coat
For a softer line: a brushed wool blend that falls to the ankle with a deep shawl lapel and a double-button front. The brand lists it as large to size. Wear it open over the deep V-neck dress, closed over a knit and trousers.
Which one to buy
For rain and a bike, the car coat. For cold and a city, the bridge coat with the collar on. For the office and evenings, the broad coat. All three take a knit underneath; the coat guide has the classic double coat and the cocoon for comparison, and the size guide the EU to UK scale.
