Saiid Kobeisy size and fit guide: EU 34 to 48, the chart and the conversion
Saiid Kobeisy cuts every ready-to-wear style in the same European run, EU 34 to 48, and publishes one body-measurement chart for all of them: bust, waist and hips per size, in centimetres and inches, with a waist-to-floor of 122 cm and a sleeve of 60 cm as the pattern standard. The house publishes no sizing correction, so the pieces run true to their EU size. Coveti shows the run on the UK ladder, 4 UK to 18 UK, and this page gives the conversion, the house chart, and the fitting-room notes for each kind of piece, because a fitted crepe column and a cascading tulle skirt do not fit the same way.
“Alterations must be requested at the time of purchase to ensure we can accommodate your specific requirements,” the house states in its Alterations Policy. “Alterations are available for purchases made both online at www.saiidkobeisy.com and at SAIID KOBEISY boutiques.”
Key facts
- Size run: EU 34 to 48 on every style, shown at Coveti as 4 UK to 18 UK; EU 34 is a UK 6, EU 36 a UK 8, and so on in steps of two
- The house chart: bust 86 to 114 cm, waist 66 to 94, hips 92 to 120 across EU 34 to 48, one chart for every style
- No sizing correction published: true to size. Fitted bodices are close through the bust and waist; skirts, capes and kaftans are cut with room
- Pattern standard: waist to floor 122 cm, sleeve 60 cm; the house alters hems, bust and back complimentary at the time of purchase
- Coveti sells the pieces as cut; a good tailor can alter crepe, taffeta and tailoring, and a specialist the embroidered pieces
The conversion and the chart
| EU | UK at Coveti | US (house chart) | Bust cm | Waist cm | Hips cm |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 34 | 6 | 2 | 86 | 66 | 92 |
| 36 | 8 | 4 | 90 | 70 | 96 |
| 38 | 10 | 6 | 94 | 74 | 100 |
| 40 | 12 | 8 | 98 | 78 | 104 |
| 42 | 14 | 10 | 102 | 82 | 108 |
| 44 | 16 | 12 | 106 | 86 | 112 |
| 46 | 18 | 14 | 110 | 90 | 116 |
| 48 | 20 | 16 | 114 | 94 | 120 |
The EU to UK conversion is a fixed step of 28: EU 34 is UK 6, EU 48 is UK 20. The house pairs its EU sizes with US sizes on its own chart, EU 34 with US 2, and Coveti’s ladder stops at 18 UK, so an EU 48 buyer should filter on the largest UK size shown on the product page. Measure bust at the fullest point, waist at the narrowest, hips at the fullest, and compare with the chart before ordering; the house cuts to these body measurements with ease added by the pattern.
Fitted pieces
The crepe columns, the velvet long dresses, the corseted and strapless bodices and the lace fitted dresses are cut close through the bust and waist. Take your usual EU size, check the waist figure first because it is the tightest point, and if you sit between two sizes on the waist, take the larger one and have the bust taken in, which is the easier alteration. The Embellished Off-Shoulder Dress in Salsa Rosa is the reference.
Cascading and caped pieces
The tulle skirts, the taffeta A-lines, the capes and the kaftans are cut with movement in mind and carry their room in the skirt, not the bodice. Take your usual size; the bodice will still fit close and the skirt will fall as intended. The Embroidered Georgette Dress in Cactus Flower shows the shape.
Jumpsuits
A jumpsuit has to fit at the torso length as well as the waist, and the house cuts its jumpsuits with a wide leg and a long inseam for a heel. Take your usual size; if you are shorter than the 122 cm waist-to-floor standard, budget for the hem to be shortened, which is straightforward on crepe. The Embroidered Crepe Georgette Jumpsuit in Reed is the reference.
Jackets and trousers
The tailoring is cut to the same EU run and fits close through the shoulder and waist on the jackets, straight through the hip on the trousers. The Ruffled Tailored Jacket in Ivory shows the jacket line. A tailor can take in a waist and shorten a trouser; a shoulder should not be altered.
Alterations
From the house, alterations are requested at the time of purchase, with hem, bust, back, lining, tapering and minor resizing complimentary and larger changes surcharged at 10 to 15 per cent. For a piece bought at Coveti, use a tailor for crepe, taffeta and tailoring, and a specialist for anything embroidered, beaded and sheer, so the embroidery moves with the seam. Fabrics and care says which fabrics tolerate what.
