Saiid Kobeisy velvet and taffeta: the winter columns, the bows and the organza

Velvet and taffeta are the two fabrics of the Jennifer Lopez gown, a fitted velvet body and an ivory taffeta cape, and they are the house’s two answers to volume: velvet for the fitted winter column, taffeta and its lighter cousin organza for the bows, the capes and the full skirts. Coveti has 48 velvet, taffeta and organza pieces on 20 September 2026, from $490 to $5,953, and this page lists 12 by season and says how each behaves.

“I envisioned a moment of modern royalty – something that feels powerful, reflective, and eternal,” Saiid Kobeisy said of the black velvet gown and ivory taffeta cape Jennifer Lopez wore to the New York premiere of Good Night, and Good Luck on 3 April 2025, in the house’s own account of the evening.

Velvet, taffeta and organza

Velvet is the black-tie fabric for winter and the one to build the Jennifer Lopez idea on: a quiet fitted body that a bow cape and real jewellery can be added to. Taffeta gives the house its bows and its structure, and it creases, so it is steamed from inside and stored hanging with room. Organza is taffeta at half the weight, for the layered summer gowns. The black-tie page puts the velvet to work and the cape dresses page has the bow capes.
